Samsung Galaxy S10 may get side-mounted fingerprint sensor, super wide-angle lens

Samsung could be going back to its Galaxy S6 days and may launch a trio of Galaxy S10 phones next year. Recent reports all indicate that the company is working on three models of the Galaxy S10, perhaps to take on Apple's trio 2018 iPhones expected later this year. Reports, however, have been varying as to what each Galaxy S10 model will bring to the table. This week, some new reports suggest that at least one of the models will sport a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and the top-end Galaxy S10+ model may come with a super wide-angle lens.

If you've been following reports off late, the Galaxy S10 may come in three versions - a regular flat display model (codenamed Beyond 0), a Galaxy S10+ model with dual cameras and curved display (Beyond 1), and a top-end Galaxy S10+ model with a triple camera setup (Beyond 2). The triple camera Galaxy S10+ model will look to take on the Huawei P20 Pro, which is the first and as of now the only phone to sport a triple camera setup. A new report adds that Samsung will take things a notch higher by adding a super wide-angle lens to one of the cameras for all three models. You can check the concept of the Galaxy S10 with three cameras below. The concept also shows no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The report claims that the entry-level Galaxy S10 and the middle version will both get dual cameras with the primary sensor being a 12MP with a variable aperture (f1.5/ f.24) and a 16MP secondary super wide-angle lens with a 16MP sensor and f/1.9 aperture. Meanwhile, the high-end Galaxy S10 model with a triple lens setup may see a 12MP primary camera with variable aperture, a 16MP super wide-angle sensor with f/1.9 aperture, and a third 13MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The report adds that the primary sensor will be placed in the middle while the other two will be on either side.

Separately, SamMobile, which has been one of the more trusted sources when it comes to all things Samsung, claims that the entry-level Galaxy S10 model will get a fingerprint sensor on the side of the device while the more expensive two models will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. This does make sense considering companies like Vivo have already started deploying in-display fingerprint sensor on its phones this year, and Samsung will not want to trail behind.

We cannot verify whether both the latest reports are true, but they more or less keep in line with what we have heard about the Galaxy S10 so far. The plus model will reportedly sport a 6.44-inch AMOLED display, while the middle variant with getting a 6.2-inch AMOLED display and the low-end model will get a 5.8-inch display. All three phones If Samsung is indeed taking the Apple route, then the low-end Galaxy S10 will lose a few key Samsung features to keep it affordable. SO an in-display fingerprint sensor and curved display seem out of the question. Samsung might be seeing this phone as the key to driving up sales, which it needs especially with affordable flagships like the OnePlus 6 and ZenFone 5Z now in the picture.
