Nawaz's street power threats bid to exert pressure on state institutions: Bilawal

Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is threatening to bring people to streets in an attempt to pressurise institutions against his disqualification.

“The masses will not be fooled, no matter how much hue and cry you raise against your ouster from power,” Bilawal said while addressing a public gathering in Mansehra on Saturday.

“You have looted this country and you are a criminal, not an innocent,” the PPP chief said while referring to the deposed PM. “You have been disqualified for life by Supreme Court.”

Criticising Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, the PPP chief said the former had not done anything for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He reiterated that 2018 general elections will be his first and Imran’s last.

On Thursday, while addressing a news conference in Lahore, Bilawal said PPP will not extend any sort of support or provide relief to the deposed PM, and added that there were no threats to democracy. Addressing the presser, party’s co-chairman Asif Zardari said he doesn’t see Nawaz or his family in Pakistan’s future politics.

Nawaz has been addressing supporters in various cities against his disqualification by the top court and is expected to address a public meeting in Multan soon to intensify his campaign.

The former premier was disqualified for failing to declare unclaimed wages earned as an executive of a Dubai-based company owned by his son in the assets statement he filed alongside his nomination papers for NA-120 in 2013 general election.
