Salman Abedi identified as suicide bomber in Manchester attack outside Ariana Grande concert that killed 22, injured 59

British authorities have identified the suicide bomber in the deadly Manchester attack outside an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people, including an 8-year-old girl, U.S. officials said.

Salman Abedi set off a homemade explosive outside Manchester Arena Monday night as the Grande concert ended, authorities said. Along with the 22 fatalities, another 59 people — 12 of whom were under age 16 — were sent to the hospital.

ISIS earlier Tuesday claimed one of its soldiers carried out the gruesome attack, but officials have not connected Abedi with any terror group.

Police raided two southern Manchester addresses believed to be connected with the bombing, setting off a controlled explosive at one of the locations.

A 23-year-old man was also arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the fatal explosion.

British Prime Minister Theresa May, speaking outside No. 10 Downing Street Tuesday, said the attacker purposely chose an area and time that would “cause maximum carnage and to kill and injure indiscriminately” and “this attack stands out for its appalling, sickening cowardice.”

"We struggle to comprehend the warped and twisted mind that sees a room packed with young children not as a scene to cherish, but as an opportunity for carnage," May said.

Many of those killed or injured were young people, including 8-year-old Saffie Rose Roussos and 18-year-old Georgina Callander.

Chris Parker, a homeless man who was in the arena’s foyer at the time of the attack, rushed to help an ill-fated woman in her 60s after the blast scattered “nuts and bolts” across the room.

"She passed away in my arms,” Parker told the Manchester Evening News. “I haven’t stopped crying.”

A number of people remained missing into Tuesday afternoon, including Polish nationals

Among the unaccounted for is Kelly Brewster, 32, who reportedly shielded her sister, Claire Booth, and 11-year-old niece, Hollie, The Guardian reported.

Paul Dryhurst, her uncle, said “nuts and bolts removed from all places” of Booth and Hollie, according to the newspaper.

“After the impact Claire had gone to Hollie but when she looked up she couldn’t find Kelly,” he said. “They lost her in all the commotion.”

Investigators are scouring the city for answers on what drove Abedi to unleash havoc.

Police haven’t identified the 23-year-old man, nor said what role he possibly had in the attack.
