Er. Nazir Ahmad Nazir
There is a news channel namely ‘Times Now’ that with every passing event seems to be more a channel of hooliganism, noisy environment and sensational character rather than being a decent, disciplined and convincing one whose anchor is Arnab Goswami.
Till some time past I thought him an intelligent, capable and a seasoned human being, but he is uproarious, aggressive and unprincipled often without logics, speaking and dominating more with his high vocal cord voice rather than accepting truth and listening to genuine and realistic points.
Regarding any talks on Kashmir issue, he wants everyone to admit and deem separatists like Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik and others as “terrorists” who should be dealt severely and put behind the bars with their supporters too. This man spits venom. He himself describes personalities and delivers judgements thereby defeating the basic purpose of the discussions.
He conducts the programme in such a way that all the participants though dignified, educated and respectable citizens of the soil turn intoMawalis. He is simply an exploiter who seems to have the full backing and support of fascists and communalists.
Let me put him a simple question and I am extremely and awefully perplexed why anyone in the debate doesn’t ask this psyche patient that has Geelani Sahab not contested elections and remained a member of so called Legislative Assembly more than a couple of occasions. Have Yasin Malik and some other militants not carried on the election campaign of Mohammad Yousuf Shah (now Sallahuddin of HM) in 1987, then what is the reason for their deviation or drift in policy and that of other youth and why should Indian not be advised to hold talks with these actual stake holders as they really are: mainstreams parties although too are to be reckoned with, but in real sense they have no locus standi in the resolution of the dispute as they are mere puppets and will get nullified if Hurriyat is given free space and a sort of referendum to ascertain public support is held.
Nobody in the debate atleast without beating around the bush says, let us go into the genesis of the crisis rather than allege Pakistan and blame others for the trouble.
India has itself taken the Kashmir issue to the UN in the wake of tribal raiders invading J&K when Maharaja was in power during 1947 and by not standing to its commitments this issue has been made complex than it actually was. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Patel and others even Gandhiji whom we thought to be innocent are the main persons who created a situation for Maharaja, where under he had to annex the state with India, otherwise, to be fair enough he never favoured accession with any of two conflicting neighbours and there is one perception/theory that the document of accession that was also circumstantially backed by Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah didn’t bear the actual signatures of the ruler.
Maharaja who at the time of tribal raid requested India for help was in turn asked rather forced to go for accession, a ruthless exploitation by the then political brass. However, the accession was conditional in its absolute character.
People even doubt the authenticity of these documents bearing real signatures. Even with all this Kashmiris after having got freed from the clutches of Dogra Shahi didn’t make any hue and cry against the accession barring some feeble voices that might have raised their head, nevertheless, were silenced and calmed down by the newly constituted government.
Arnab and his associates in the debate probably either do not have an idea of what India and its forces did in Kashmir thereafter or, otherwise, they deliberately/intentionally close their eyes and suppress the conscience. I need not to dwell at length. Two factors that Arnab and his yes men debaters should bear in mind.
1) The period between October 1947-1987 that witnessed snatching power unconstitutionally from Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who enjoyed the fullest support of the masses and not only represented their aspirations, but ruled their heart beats too till 1982.
2) Barbaric erosion of special status of J&K state, mass rigging of elections and installation of governments, atrocities on the common masses during this period and finally the unabated massacres and genocide of Kashmiri Muslims since 1990 till now reversed the course of the stream.
The communal riots and killing of minority community in different states of India time and again also laid an impact on the thinking of Kashmiri people and added to their alienation. If Arnab and his news channel are non-biased then he should not lose sight of such happenings in the history of Kashmir.
Regarding Dr. Zakir Naik let me say that he speaks the truth fearlessly and talks logic and as such has to face confrontation any time at the hands of those who are jealous of his tremendous support and mass popularity, who are against his peace mission, who are against his ideology so this will be no surprise to all of us if his channel gets banned in view of a conspiracy having been hatched right since its inception.
Arnab has ultimately lit the fire through a media trial. His cherished desire is to put this genius great scholar behind the bars if not hanged. For his kind information Dr. Zakir Naik is a very straight forward person and not a hypocrite like him. So this innocent noble man may not have even conceived of such a situation turning against him in his own country since he started his peace mission long before.
Arnab and others averse to Dr. Naik should bow their heads in shame as Dr Naik wants to bring in different communities together and spread peace as per the verse of Quran that says let us come in come to term on similarities leaving aside differences and controversies so how he could be dubbed as a terrorist “supporter”. He uses more a logic than only religious lines. He removes misconceptions about Islam. He knows Hinduism, Christianity more than its own scholars and teaches others in a more lucid way citing correct references. By trying to catch him on the wrong foot with the pretext that he deems suicide attacks genuine and thus may be having links with terrorist organisations like ISIS and others, what these so called nationalists want to prove.
As a Muslim, I believe suicide is prohibited, but then Islam doesn’t reject circumstances. For a cause, for a mission it can be adopted to crush the enemy and not the innocent people in an inevitable situation. However, this is not so easily permissible and needs to be debated out. Dr. Naik describes the nature of terror. If we go through his justifications rather explanations, then we can righty accept Bhagat Singh who took up to arms in acute circumstances against cruel English colonialists during freedom struggle of India and laid down his life for a good cause as a martyr. Otherwise, for English rulers he was simply a hardcore terrorist.
Killing of innocents is not only highly condemnable, but unpardonable act. So we need to go deep in the perspective, Dr Naik may have talked in. Nevertheless, he is no authority on the issue and cannot issue a fatwa in this context as such. Although, logic suggests that in war between the two if to smash a camp of enemy somebody is ready to sacrifice his life in this way, it can be an option and may be treated as a war weapon to get the desired result. However, almost all the Muslim scholars even Dr Naik in my opinion cannot allow it so easily.
Dr Naik as per Arnab is showing disrespect and spreading hatred against other religions which is totally baseless. Agreed that he says idol worshipping is bad. To prove it he quotes Vedas and not the Quran to convince Non-Muslims especially Hindus. He says to eradicate evils and to do away with the sins taking recourse to arms is the ultimate resort which is in line with Hindu religious history too. So this kind of procedure has to be followed not only by Muslims but also by Hindus and others. As such Arnab should stop defamation campaign against Dr Naik or leaders spear heading Kashmir cause. Dr Naik spreads peace, brotherhood and tranquillity in terms of divine truth.
So far as Kashmir issue is concerned, today or tomorrow it has to be resolved. India may treat it as her “integral part” or Pakistan as its“jugular vein”, the solution lies not in suppression but sitting across the table and carve out an amicable settlement acceptable to all the regions of the state.
Let us love India as much as we love Pakistan as they are the two parts of the same body that got separated due to wrong and communal based policies of Indian National Congress. However, to bring peace and normalcy in the subcontinent and avoid any major conflict that would have its impact in South Asia, Kashmir issue should be resolved and the piece of land here and across re-united and allowed to remain as an independent nation as it was prior to October, 1947 with its borders guarded by both the contending countries who need to shun their hostilities and live in harmony with each other.
This would put an end to the threat of any war, besides interferences of western countries especially America who in the guise of a friend to both of them actually serves its own interests at the cost of these two developing nations.
